Is Your Security Monitoring Service Worthy of the Trust You Give Them

Basically there are three components to your burglar alarm monitoring system. First is obvious, the hardware that is installed in your home. This would include everything from your keypad to the video cameras. Most home security devices are not manufactured by the company installing them however, generally speaking the majority of hardware is good and bear quality names you trust.

Second is a bit less obvious, the software that is used for communication between your hardware internally among components and with the monitoring center itself. Again, most software is quality and programmed to work well.

The third component to your system and possibly the most important is the security system monitoring service. State of the art hardware and software provides you little protection if there is no one watching the results.

So how does a person know if a company is trustworthy to have the responsibility of watching over you and your belongings 24/7? To answer this you will need to ask the question “Is this company a UL Certified monitoring center?” If the answer is yes, you’re in very capable hands. Here’s why:

Underwriters Laboratory is an independent, not-for-profit product safety testing and certification organization and has been testing products for public safety for more than a century. A UL certification delivers the highest level of confidence available in today’s market.

To put it simply, a company wishing to become UL certified the company must submit their services or products to an audit. When UL finds that they meet the applicable requirements, the company is certified.

In order to obtain a certificate for the burglar alarm monitoring center, the facility must be able to demonstrate their ability to provide service compliant at all times with UL standards. This is an ongoing auditing process. If at any time the actual structure of the building, monitoring equipment, installation, staffing, or service provided does not meet the UL standards, the certificate can be pulled.

There may be home security companies that meet these standards who have not taken the time to be certified, however, if they do not have UL as a constant system of checks, how do you know they will always have the highest of industry standards?

It is also important to note, that Underwriters Laboratory does not use a third party for their auditing system. They have not found a company that can provide them with the assurance that their testing methodology, data generation and recording principles are on par with UL.
