Keep your Home Safe while on Vacation

iStock_000014553377Small_revHush-Hush as tempting as it is to Instagram and Facebook all the high points and low points of your vacation, you might want to wait until you get home. Nothing signals “my house is empty” like real-time pictures of your family having dinner at a waterfront restaurant in Hawaii. Tell only key people of your travel plans before you leave, and don’t broadcast your vacation pictures to the world until you’re back home.Keep it Light– to give the impression that your house is occupied, attach a timer to your indoor and outdoor lights. All-Guard’s home automation system takes it even one step further; it will let you manage your lights and temperature controls from anywhere in the world with a WiFi connection. Contact us today and let us help you.

Locked Up – make sure you lock all windows and doors before you leave. Nothing ruins a good vacation like “did I – or didn’t I…?” Also store valuables such as jewelry and important documents in your safe or rent a safety deposit box while you’re gone.

Mail Stop – an overflowing mailbox and a growing number of advertising flyers strewn outside your house will certainly let others know that you’re not at home. Contact your post office and request they hold your mail while you’re gone. It’s also a good idea to let a trusted neighbor know that you’ll be away so they can remove newspapers and flyers from your driveway and front porch.

Shut Off – unless you’ve arranged with your neighbor to drop in and water your plants, you should consider turning off the water main. A burst pipe, or even a slow-dripping leak, can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of damage when left for a week or two. All-Guard’s monitored flood detectors can’t stop the leak but they will provide an early warning.

Before you leave for your vacation, call All-Guard and let us know when you will be gone; in case of an emergency, it will save valuable time if we know how to contact you.

If you have any questions regarding leaving your house when going on vacation, call All-Guard at 800.255.4273. We are here 24/7/365 to help protect your family and your home.
